Privacy Policy

Using Classic without an account

You can use Classic without giving me any personal information. Here's what happens when you visit:

• Microsoft Clarity. To see how the page gets used and fix what's confusing, Classic uses Microsoft Clarity. It records visits (clicks, scrolling, mouse movement and which parts of the page get used) and sets its own cookies. Microsoft handles that data under the Microsoft Privacy Statement.
• Link counts. When you click a link in one of the category boxes, Classic adds one to that link's count for the day. The count doesn't include your IP address, a cookie or who you are.
• Search. The search box sends your search to the search engine you pick (Google, Bing, DuckDuckGo or Yahoo!), and that company's privacy policy applies. The "Google Custom" option sends it to Best Homepage Ever's search page. Classic doesn't keep your searches.
• Weather. The weather shows Dallas, TX until you choose a location. If you choose one, or let your browser share your location, that place is sent to Google's weather and maps services to look up your forecast.
• Saved in your browser. A few things are saved in your browser so the page opens the way you left it: your background, banner picture, text size and which notices you've closed. They stay on your device.
• The server. Like every website, Classic's server and Cloudflare (which protects and speeds up the site) see your IP address and browser details when you load a page. They're used for security and to keep the site running.

If you create a free account

• What's stored: your first and last name, email address and password. The password is stored scrambled (hashed), so nobody, including me, can read it.
• What you save: your settings (background, font, text size, categories, search engine, weather location and units), your My Links and your Digital Notes.
• Staying signed in: a sign-in cookie and a sign-in token saved in your browser. A sign-in lasts 24 hours, or 30 days with "Remember me", which also remembers your email address on that device.
• Activity: I record which days your account is used (for example, that you visited or saved a link) and when you last signed in, so I can tell which accounts are still active.
• Emails: I only email you about your account: password resets, confirming a new email address, and notices when your email or password changes. They're sent through Resend, an email delivery service.
• Spam protection: the sign-up and password reset forms use Google reCAPTCHA to stop bots. The Google Privacy Policy and Terms of Service apply.

Deleting your account

Sign in, open My Account and choose Delete account. That permanently removes your account, settings, links, notes, sign-in tokens and activity records. Or email me and I'll do it for you.

Links to other websites

Classic is a page of links. Once you click one, you're on that website, and its privacy policy applies. Some links are affiliate links: if you buy something, I may earn a commission, and the affiliate network may set a cookie to track the referral. See the disclosures.

Children

Classic isn't meant for children under 13, and I don't knowingly collect their information.
